“I am finally free of the three to four nightmares I endured every night for more than 17 years. I am sleeping
better, feeling better than I can remember. My hyper-vigilance has been replaced with a sense of inner peace.”
- Art F., Captain/Company Commander, US Military
"Invisible Heroes" are those brave souls among us dealing with the painful (and sometimes secret) "Invisible Wounds" of life experiences. They exist in every walk of life, and range in age from infancy to the wise elders among us. They appear to many as ordinary people, but they are children to some, parents and friends to others, providers of vital services to all of us. Many feel lost and alone, even when they are not. "Heroes", because in spite of the anguish harbored inside, they valiantly struggle to maintain some sense of normalcy as they deal with day to day responsibilities.
Sometimes even the most ordinary tasks are daunting. A trip to the store, making it through a day at work, or interacting socially - even with family members, can be excruciating. "Invisible Heroes" do the best they can, while on the inside they deal with a myriad of painful emotions and memories.
"Invisible Wounds" result from a multitude of traumatizing experiences. Some of these include abuse, the loss of loved ones, natural disasters, military experiences, violence, stressful life circumstances and jobs that mean facing traumas and tragedies on a daily basis.
We at the Personal Peace Foundation (PPF) are here to offer those "Invisible Heroes" a pathway out of that private world of pain. Know that even if you have lost hope and don't think it is possible, there are simple self-empowering techniques that can help you regain freedom and peace of mind. The techniques we use and teach are simple to learn and highly effective. They can be used for a lifetime in any situation and the more they're used, the more they work.
Note to Colleagues: Please Stop Saying Post Traumatic Stress Is Incurable
"You can recover from post traumatic stress. Certainly, you can significantly reduce - not just manage - its symptoms. But - and here's the thing - not with traditional treatment. The problem is, a lot of my colleagues don't know this yet. So they go about it in traditional ways and pronounce the condition incurable, based on the results they get." Huffington Post, May 10, 2010
