Can’t Let Go Of A Fear?

Have you ever thanked your fear? That may sound outrageous to you, but you might be surprised at how it could work for you.

When you learn EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), you are taught that being specific is essential to your success. The challenge however, is to be sure you are getting to each possible aspect related to the issue. Because our subconscious mind may have developed its own ideas, unbeknownst to you, getting to certain aspects can be more difficult. You may even find yourself ready to give up, convinced your stuck with the issue.

Try as you might, there’s a fear that seems to be incredibly stubborn. You’ve gone through events and every contributing factor you can think of, even tapping on resistance, but it still remains.

You could tap, asking your subconscious to deliver the answer, but sometimes it may not be in the mood to cooperate. Since you are already frustrated, don’t invest too much time if you aren’t getting results.

So what do you do now?

As strange as “Have you ever thanked that fear?” may sound, in my experience, when you’ve tried everything else, it is time for a fresh approach.

One of the things that can be at play, is that some part of you, more than likely that “part” sometimes referred to as that “protector part”, still believes the fear is serving a useful purpose. Therefore it isn’t open to the possibility of letting it go. Here is an approach that has proven effective on many occasions that could help you find relief.

Begin by tuning into with the fear. Take a moment to notice where you feel it physically. If you don’t notice a physical response, consider that you may have been holding (as an example) tension in the same muscles for so long that it has become the norm. When that’s the case, don’t be concerned. Trust that the process will work with you.

Rate your level of intensity, and try something like this:

Set-up:

Even though a part of me believes we need this fear, I am

thanking it for working overtime to keep safe.

Even though a part of me believes this fear serves a useful

purpose, and it is not safe to let it go, I’m letting it know I am

grateful for all it has done for me.

Sequence:

Acknowledging this fear,

Thanking this fear and every part of me,

For working to keep me safe.

This fear that’s been with me for so long

I appreciate all you’ve done

But I’m letting you know

Things are different now

And it is okay to see things differently

Thanking this fear

And every part of me

For all its efforts on my behalf

And I am asking to work with me

In a different way

Helping me to transform this fear

To exactly what I need to feel calm and confident

At the end of each round, always take a few deep breaths, in through the nose, out through the mouth. And by all means keep drinking water between rounds, and after you have finished tapping. Water helps to move the energy and enhances the benefits of your work.

When the it feels right to you, or when your level of intensity is down to 3 or less, begin to tap directly on transforming the energy of fear to the energy you feel you need most.

Thoroughly test your results. As you test, be sure to include every past trigger for the fear you can recall. If you feel it is gone and it returns, you have probably connected with a trigger or aspect that EFT can help you overcome.

If you are still unable to free yourself from the fear, it is time to contact a seasoned EFT professional. EFT is a great self-empowerment tool that allows us to accomplish a great deal on our own, but when it comes to stubborn or complex issues seeking help is the prudent thing to do. It is not that EFT isn’t working, but is an indication that some guidance is required. Remember, while research has proven it works, it remains more of an art than a science.

Happy tapping!
